Patient Profile
Lucas, a 6-year-old boy from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Diagnosis
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a rare genetic disorder.
The Challenge
Lucas’s parents were in a race against time. There is a groundbreaking gene therapy that can stop the progression of SMA, but it is one of the most expensive medicines in the world and has extremely limited availability in South America. The bureaucracy and cost in Brazil were insurmountable. They needed a place where the medicine was available and where the clinical expertise to administer it to a child was world-class.
The Lecheng Solution
Through a global patient advocacy group, they found our service. Boao Lecheng had recently imported the specific gene therapy Lucas needed. LechengMedical launched a “Compassionate Care” mission. We helped the family navigate the complex legal and financial paperwork, secured the medicine through the green channel, and even helped them find a charity-rate stay within the zone.
Because the patient was a child, we ensured the medical team included top pediatric neurologists. We transformed the hospital experience into something less scary, with kid-friendly translation and a dedicated play-therapist.
The Result
Lucas received the single-dose infusion successfully. Within months, his muscle tone began to improve. He can now sit up unaided and has begun to take his first assisted steps—milestones his parents once thought were impossible. This case remains our proudest achievement, proving that Boao Lecheng is not just for the elite, but a beacon of hope for any patient seeking a miracle.
